South African captain Temba Bavuma has addressed the viral photo from the 2023 World Cup Captains Meet on October 4 in Ahmedabad, clarifying that he was not asleep. He attributed the misleading appearance to the camera angle.
Earlier in the day, all 10 team captains engaged with journalists and broadcasters during a special event in Ahmedabad as part of the preparations for the 2023 World Cup, with Temba Bavuma representing South Africa.
A photo of Bavuma appeared to show him sleeping during the Captains Meet, quickly spreading across social media platforms. However, the South African captain promptly clarified that he had not actually fallen asleep, and that the camera angle had created a misleading impression.
In response to The Barmy Army sharing a photo of him appearing to sleep, Bavuma tweeted, “It’s the camera angle to blame, I wasn’t actually sleeping.”
I blame the camera angle, I wasn’t sleeping 🤦🏽♂️

While Bavuma insisted he wasn’t asleep, many fans still believed that the South African captain had nodded off during the 2023 World Cup Captains Meet. Some of them expressed this belief in the comments, asserting that he had indeed been sleeping.
