WATCH : Louis Kimber ‘hands his wicket’ to Gloucestershire in bizarre fashion

During the Division 2 match between Gloucestershire and Leicestershire in the County Championship, there was a notable incident involving middle-order batsman Louis Kimber. While batting on 34 off 65 balls, the 26-year-old faced a delivery from Oliver Price’s off-break.

As the ball bounced off the pitch, Kimber mistakenly grabbed it momentarily when he realized it was heading towards the stumps. However, he quickly realized his mistake and released the ball. Unfortunately for Kimber, his actions prompted Price and his Gloucestershire teammates to appeal for obstructing the field.

The on-field umpires, Graham Lloyd and Paul Baldwin, discussed the appeal and ultimately confirmed Kimber’s dismissal. Despite the fact that Kimber could have easily avoided the situation by using his legs to send the ball away, his error led to him walking back to the pavilion.

The incident sparked a quick reaction from netizens worldwide, with mixed opinions being expressed. It is worth noting that MCC’s Law 37 clearly states that “the Striker, on appeal, shall be out should wilful obstruction by either Batsman prevent a catch being made.”

Consequently, the decision for the umpires to uphold Gloucestershire’s appeal was straightforward.
