10 batsmen with the highest batting averages in ODI cricket

The first One day international (ODI) was played between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1971.

The ODI format took over the test format and added some flavour to the sport. Odi have managed to hold it’s position of his own in the World of shorter version game like 20 Over,10 Over and the newly invented The Hundred. However most of the players and fans still rate ODI higher than they do Twenty20 and those who do well in this format are rated highly indeed.

10. MS Dhoni (India)

The former Indian Captain MS Dhoni stands tenth in the list of players with highest batting averages in one day international. Having played 350 games for the country and batted in 297 innings MS has scored 10773 runs at an average of 50.57. These includes ten centuries and 73 half-centuries.

MS has been a terrific servant for Indian cricket and the most successful captain ever in the limited over format. He is the only Captain to win all the ICC tournament as Captain. Also one of greatest finisher the world has ever witnessed.

9. Jonathan Trott (ENGLAND)

Following MS Dhoni, Jonathan Trott makes his way into the list, the Englishmen has an average of 51.25 in 65 innings. Trott had to declare prematurely declare his career due to mental health issues.

He had played 68 ODI for England and scored 2819 runs with 4 centuries and 22 half-centuries on his name.

8. Joe Root (ENGLAND)

Following J Trott, another Englishmen Joe Root makes his way into the list. The English test Captain has an average of 51.33 in his 142 innings. The classy batsman can be the first Englishmen to score 10,000 runs in ODI.

Joe Root bats at 3 for England in ODI which allows him to face maximum balls. The English test Captain has already scored 6109 runs with a Strike rate of 86.84.

7. Ab De Villiers ( South Africa )

The former South African skipper has termed as one of the greatest ever to play the game of cricket. When he is in full flow no one ever close to him in stroke making. On his day he can smash any bowler out of the park.

Having scored 9577 runs at an average of 53.50 with an strike rate close to 102. Also has 25 centuries and 53 half-centuries to his name in the ODI format.

6. Michael Bevan (Australia)

The former Australian batsman termed as one of the greatest finisher ever alongside MS Dhoni. Bevan was part of the great Australian side and won many memorable matches for Australia.

Known for his smooth drives nad cuts, Bevan had great skill being able to keep the scorecard ticking. Bevan averaged 53.58 in the 232 one day international he played although he got 196 innings of those. He scored a total of 6912 runs comprises of 6 centuries and 46 half-centuries, most of which came in winning causes for Australia.

5.Shai Hope (West Indies)

The WK batsman from West Indies have been in prolific run scorer for the Windies from last few years. The only West Indies batsman to be in the list also second WK batsman after Ms Dhoni to made it here.

Hope has scored 3547 runs in the 82 one day international he played in so far. He averages 53.74 puts him in fifth place in the list. Hope has 10 centuries and 19 half-centuries in the ODI format.

4.Babar Azam (Pakistan)

The Pakistani Skipper Babar Azam comes fourth in the list with an average of 56.92. Babar has been one of the best batsman Pakistani has ever produced. Having made his debut against New Zealand in 2015, the Pakistani superstar has scored 3985 runs in 81 innings.

He has scored 14 centuries and 17 half-centuries in the ODI format. The Lahore born batsman has an average of 42.53 in the test format as well. He is someone who can be the greatest ever batsman Pakistan has ever produced.

3. Virat Kohli ( India )

India’s Captain Virat Kohli, commonly termed as King Kohli by the fans arguably the one of greatest ever to play the game. With an average of 59.07 in one day international, the Indian Captain already scored 12169 in 245 innings.

With 43 centuries and 62 half-centuries, Kohli has most century by a active player in this format and overall second as another Indian Sachin Tendulkar leads the chart with 49 centuries.

2. Ryan Ten Doeschate (The Netherland)

Ryan Ten Doeschate has played 33 one day international for Netherland from 2006-2011 . He has scored 1541 runs at an average of 67 in 32 innings he batted for Netherland.

Out of those 32 innings he has been not-out in 9 occasion. Doeschate had 9 half-centuries and 5 centuries to his name In his short career. With a strike rate of 87, Doeschate also very handy with the ball.

He had played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL for five seasons.

He has scored 969 runs in 26 one day international he played, with 8 half-centuries and one century to his name. Although it’s the starting of his career he had shown potential to be a great batsman for the Proteas.
