Indian captain Rohit Sharma momentarily forgot the team’s plan after winning the toss against New Zealand in the second one-dayer at Raipur on Saturday, causing a delay for match referee Javagal Srinath, Kiwi captain Tom Latham, and commentator Ravi Shastri.
Sharma later explained to Shastri, “We had many discussions about the toss decision and wanted to challenge ourselves under difficult conditions, so we will bowl first.”
India, who currently hold a 1-0 lead in the three-match series against New Zealand, had previously won the series opener in Hyderabad thanks to Shubman Gill’s double century. The team now aims to secure the victory in Raipur, which is hosting its first ever international match.
Upon winning the toss, Indian Captain Rohit Sharma momentarily forgot their plan and decided to bowl first. He explained to commentator Ravi Shastri, “We had plenty of discussions about the toss decision and wanted to challenge ourselves under difficult conditions, so we will bowl first.”
He also added that it was a good test for the team and that they had heard from the curator that dew would not play a role on game days. Both India and New Zealand have made no changes to their teams for the second ODI.
