On Friday, January 27, Team India greeted New Zealand in Ranchi for the initial T20I match between the two teams. MS Dhoni, a local from Jharkhand, recently dropped by the Indian dressing room and attended the first T20I of the series in his hometown.
MS Dhoni was seen in the stands at the JSCA International Stadium, accompanied by his wife Sakshi, for the opening T20I match between India and New Zealand. Previously, the former captain was also present during the national anthem, but when the cameras captured him sitting in the stands, the crowd in Ranchi erupted in cheers as they chanted “Dhoni, Dhoni” throughout the venue.
During the match, Indian wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan impressed his idol MS Dhoni with a spectacular run out. Angling in from round the wicket at 133km/h, Mitchell was unable to make contact with a slog, and the ball clipped his thigh pad before rolling to the left of the keeper.
The pair aimed for a quick single, but Ishan Kishan was precise with his direct hit, catching Bracewell just short of the crease despite a frantic attempt to drag his bat inside the crease.
Dhoni’s last match for India was in the semifinal of the 2019 ODI World Cup, where he was unable to lead India to victory over New Zealand. The match resulted in a heartbreaking loss, and it turned out to be the veteran’s final appearance for India.
