As India gears up for the 4-match Test series starting on February 9 in Nagpur, their focus has shifted to Test cricket. The Australian team has arrived and begun training in Bengaluru. The defending champions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India aims to retain the title and secure their spot in the World Test Championship final.
Ahead of the first Test in Nagpur, Virat Kohli has released a video from one of his training sessions. The clip shows the former Indian captain working hard in a gym, performing a variety of cardio and strength exercises to build his fitness.
Kohli has his sights set on a hundred in the Test format as he prepares for the 4-match series. His most recent Test century came against Bangladesh in the first-ever day-night Test in India, played in 2019. It’s been almost three years since he’s scored a hundred in any format.
In 2022, Kohli ended his international century drought by hitting his first T20I hundred in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan. He later added to his century tally in ODIs, scoring hundreds against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, surpassing former Australian captain Ricky Ponting on the list of most ODI centuries.
To date, Kohli has played 104 Test matches, accumulating 8119 runs with an average of 48.90. He has 27 centuries and 28 half-centuries to his name. In 2017, during Australia’s tour of India for a Test series, Kohli led the team to a 2-1 win, bouncing back from a 333-run loss in Pune with a 75-run victory in Bengaluru.
In the third Test, held in Ranchi, Cheteshwar Pujara scored a double hundred while Wriddhiman Saha added 117 runs, resulting in a draw.
