‘Jadeja was a pathetic spinner; even Chahal is horrible’: Ex-Pakistan cricketer

India has a rich history of producing exceptional spin bowlers, including Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Bishan Singh Bedi, Ravichandran Ashwin, and several others. Among the top 20 all-time wicket-takers in international cricket, three are Indian, with Kumble leading the way in the fourth spot with 956 wickets.

India’s remarkable spin bowling skills have been a significant factor in their unbeaten Test cricket record at home since 2012. However, a former Pakistani cricketer recently made an unexpected comment about the Indian team, calling out two of their spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal, as “horrible.”

Jadeja has been a key player for the Indian cricket team in recent times. He has displayed outstanding all-round abilities in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, claiming 18 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, and being named the Player of the Match in both matches so far. In addition, he is presently ranked ninth in the ICC Test bowling list and is the top-ranked all-rounder in the format.

Chahal is another vital player for the Indian team, with 91 dismissals in 75 appearances in T20I cricket, making him India’s highest wicket-taker in the format. He has also picked up 121 wickets in 72 ODI matches for India.

During an interview on the YouTube channel ‘Nadir Ali podcast,’ ex-Pakistani cricketer Abdur Rehman was asked to name the worst Indian spinner. Initially, he refrained from answering the question, stating that no spinner is bad if they play for their country.

However, when the host insisted, he mentioned that Jadeja was a “pathetic bowler” at the start of his career and only became a top bowler under the guidance of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Rehman then went on to describe Chahal as a “horrible” bowler, stating that any batter could easily score runs off him, as he lacked force in his deliveries and couldn’t spin the ball much. When asked which team had the best spin attack, Rehman picked his own country, Pakistan.
