On Wednesday, Kim Cotton from New Zealand made history by becoming the first woman to officiate as an on-field umpire in a full-member men’s international cricket match. She presided over the second T20 between New Zealand and Sri Lanka in Dunedin.
Having been a veteran in women’s cricket, Cotton has served as an on-field and TV umpire in a total of 54 women’s T20Is and 24 women’s ODIs since 2018.
Furthermore, Cotton had the privilege of being one of the on-field umpires during the Women’s T20 World Cup final in February.
In June 2021, Claire Polosak from Australia made history as the first female umpire to officiate in a men’s Test match. She served as the fourth umpire during the India vs. Australia match in Sydney.
As for the match itself, New Zealand triumphed by nine wickets, thereby tying the three-game series at 1-1.
