In their league-stage encounter, Rajasthan Royals faced tough competition from Sunrisers Hyderabad despite setting a massive target of 215 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Sunrisers Hyderabad were in a good position at 98/1 after 11 overs, but they nearly faced disaster due to a humiliating mix-up.
However, opposing wicket-keeper Sanju Samson made an unfathomable blunder, saving them from embarrassment. Abhishek Sharma was playing well on 40 off 26 deliveries and was up against Murugan Ashwin in the 12th over when he struck a googly straight to point on the first delivery of the six-ball affair.
The young player charged towards the other non-striker’s crease for a non-existent single, but he was rightfully sent back to his crease by IPL veteran Rahul Tripathi on the other end. It seemed like it was too little too late as the fate of Sharma’s wicket was completely in the hands of the Royals.
However, they executed the first part of the process perfectly, thanks to a quick pick-up and throw by Shimron Hetmyer. To the disbelief of Hetmyer, Samson mistakenly disturbed the stumps with his gloves even before the ball had reached him.
However, he had a chance to redeem himself as one bail was still intact over the southpaw’s middle and off-stump. Unfortunately, he failed to collect the ball and dislodged the bails again, much to the dismay of the Royals fans.
Hetmyer couldn’t help but clutch his head in shock, while the skipper stood his ground staring down for a few moments, aware of the potential consequences of the mishap. The Twitterati found humor in the entire saga and took to social media to express their reactions.
