Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have opted to substitute marquee fast bowler Jofra Archer with Chris Jordan for the remainder of the 2023 season. Mumbai Indians confirmed via Twitter on Tuesday that Archer will be returning home and will be under the observation of the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The Rohit Sharma-led team has secured Chris Jordan’s services for a total of INR 2 crore.
In a tweet, MI stated, “Chris Jordan will be joining the squad for the remaining games of the season, replacing Jofra Archer, who is being monitored by the ECB as his recovery and fitness continue. Jofra will return home to concentrate on his rehabilitation.”
Jordan made his IPL debut in 2016 and has played in 28 matches, taking 27 wickets. He has also represented England in 87 T20Is and taken 96 wickets.
Archer has not been able to replicate his past performances this season and has struggled to make an impact. He has only played four matches for Mumbai Indians, taking two wickets at an economy rate of 10.38, with a disappointing average of 83.00.
His stats in the 16th edition of the T20 league are not reflective of his overall status as a top-notch bowler. In 39 IPL matches, Archer has taken 48 wickets at an average of 23.90 and an economy rate of 7.47. His best bowling figures are 3/15.
In his most recent game for MI, Archer conceded a staggering 27 runs in the penultimate over of the innings, raising concerns about his form and fitness.
