WATCH : Jos Buttler sacrifice his wicket for Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jos Buttler had set a high standard for himself in IPL 2022 by scoring 863 runs in 17 matches for Rajasthan Royals. As England’s limited-overs skipper, the expectations were naturally elevated before the season began.

However, he fell short of these expectations, only managing to accumulate 392 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 142.03. Despite Eden Gardens being a favorable batting track, Buttler failed to deliver during the KKR fixture, despite having played brilliantly in his previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored 95 runs off 59 balls.

It is fair to say that he had no one to blame but himself for not capitalizing on the opportunity. Yashasvi Jaiswal provided the Rajasthan Royals with an explosive start by hitting 26 runs off Nitish Rana’s opening over while chasing a below-average score of 150.

Realizing that they had what they needed, Jos Buttler played cautiously during Harshit Rana’s second over. However, he mistimed the fourth delivery, hitting his pad after the inside edge before going towards cover point. Jaiswal saw an opportunity to take a run, but Buttler put his gloves up to stop his partner while watching the ball.

However, he started running late, allowing Andre Russell to throw the ball directly at the non-striker’s stumps and dismiss Buttler, who was well behind the crease by then.

Buttler, who had never been dismissed for zero in the competition before this season, shook his head in disappointment after losing his wicket for the third time this year. It was evident that his casual approach had led to his downfall.
