Suyash Sharma, the 19-year-old leg-spinner for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has revealed how he reacted when he was rejected after the U-19 trials last year. In a recent video shared on the Indian Premier League’s Twitter handle, Suyash explained that he cried for two hours and even shaved his head in disappointment.
He had given the trials and performed well, but he wasn’t selected. When he woke up to the news at 3 a.m., he cried from 3 to 5 a.m. Suyash was determined to improve his skills and make it to the team.
Despite his rejection, Suyash has become one of the unexpected success stories for KKR in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) edition. He has picked up 10 wickets in nine matches at an average of 28 and an economy rate of eight.
Suyash’s unique bowling action and quick arm speed have made it difficult for batsmen to read him. Suyash’s long hair has also attracted attention, and he explained that it was a result of his rejection. His hair had grown out since the U-19 trials, and he felt that it suited him well.
Suyash is determined to keep his hair long and keep performing well for KKR. In his debut match against RCB on April 6, Suyash was the Impact Player and took 3/30. He has continued to take wickets in subsequent games.
