RCB Coach Sanjay Bangar gives update on Virat Kohli’s injury ahead of WTC 2023 Final

Virat Kohli, the prominent batter of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), sustained a knee injury during the RCB vs GT match held on May 21 at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB’s head coach, Sanjay Bangar, provided an update on Kohli’s condition, expressing confidence in his fitness.

During the game, RCB faced a worrisome moment when Kohli had to leave the field after hurting his knee while taking a catch to dismiss Vijay Shankar of the Gujarat Titans. In the subsequent press conference, Sanjay Bangar addressed the issue concerning Kohli’s knee injury.

“He had a minor issue with his knee, but I don’t believe it’s anything serious. Kohli’s recent accomplishment of scoring two consecutive centuries within four days is truly remarkable. He not only contributes with the bat but also gives his all while fielding. He had to cover a lot of ground,” stated Sanjay Bangar during the post-match press conference.

Bangar further provided an update on Virat Kohli’s injury, saying, “A few days ago, he played 40 overs, and today [Sunday], he was on the field for 35 overs, giving his best. It’s natural to feel some discomfort at some point, but I don’t think it’s a significant concern.”

Virat injured his knee during the 15th over while catching Vijay Shankar off the bowling of Vijaykumar Vyshak. RCB’s physio attended to him immediately, but Kohli walked off the field and did not return, even during the intense moments of the RCB vs GT clash.

It is worth noting that Team India is scheduled to compete in the WTC 2023 Final, which is set to begin on June 7 and conclude on June 11. The final will take place at the iconic ‘The Oval Cricket Stadium’ in London, England, where India will face Australia.

Virat Kohli’s knee injury has raised concerns as he plays a crucial role in the Indian test squad, and the WTC 2023 Final is fast approaching. However, the update provided by Sanjay Bangar makes it clear that the injury will not hinder his participation in the highly anticipated match.

Following their loss in the IPL 2023 edition’s final league game against the Gujarat Titans, RCB has been eliminated from the tournament. Virat Kohli is now expected to be among the first group of players to depart for England in preparation for the WTC 2023 Final.
