Ben McDermott, a well-known figure in Australia’s domestic cricket scene and a player for Hampshire, garnered attention during the Vitality T20 Blast match against Sussex at The Rose Bowl. In a remarkable display, McDermott, alongside James Vince, comfortably chased down the target of 145 runs in just 14.5 overs, with all ten wickets intact.
McDermott played a composed innings, scoring an unbeaten 69 off 51 deliveries to seal the victory. However, it was his actions behind the stumps during the 10th over of Hampshire’s innings that captured the interest of fans worldwide.
After dismissing Shadab Khan on the fourth ball of the over, Liam Dawson was in high spirits as he prepared to bowl the remaining two deliveries. Having conceded only two runs in his first over, Dawson commenced his second over of the day.
Hampshire’s wicket-keeper batsman, Michael Burgess, who was batting on 3 from 2 balls, struggled to read Dawson’s flighted delivery, which drifted inward. Playing outside the line, Burgess was beaten on the inside edge, causing him to lose balance and move out of the crease.
In response, McDermott attempted a routine stumping, but unfortunately failed to gather the ball, resulting in it striking his lower abdomen before ricocheting onto the stumps. Although McDermott experienced some discomfort due to the impact, he swiftly realized that Burgess had been out of the crease when the wickets were broken, prompting him to leap with joy.
Well, it goes down as stumping in the book 🤷#Blast23 pic.twitter.com/wHraswZHIR

The leg-umpire wasted no time in raising his finger to signal the dismissal. Despite understanding how the dismissal occurred, Dawson was thrilled to have taken two wickets in the span of three balls.
