Renowned as one of the most astute minds in the realm of cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin earned the moniker “the scientist” for his extensive knowledge of the game’s regulations and intricacies. In a recent TNPL match between Dindigul Dragons and Ba11sy Trichy, the 36-year-old, leading the Dragons, executed a move that had never been witnessed in professional cricket until Wednesday.

During the 13th over of Trichy’s batting innings, Ashwin took the ball and bowled, successfully dismissing R Rajkumar on the final delivery. However, Rajkumar promptly employed the Decision Review System (DRS) to challenge the on-field caught-behind decision.

Upon reviewing the replays on the stadium’s large screen, it became apparent that the bat had made contact with the ground as it passed the ball, necessitating the overruling of the original decision by third umpire S Nishaanth.

At the precise moment Ashwin observed the on-field umpire reversing the decision, he promptly signaled for a “T,” indicating his desire to utilize two reviews for the same delivery. Nishaanth diligently reviewed the footage once more, ultimately adhering to his initial verdict.

This turn of events left Ashwin disheartened, symbolized by his dejected removal of his cap in the direction of the umpire. Throughout the replays, the focus remained on the UltraEdge technology, which detected a significant spike when the bat made contact with the ground.
