WATCH : ‘Flying’ Murugan Ashwin pulls off outrageous backward running catch in TNPL 2023

In the TNPL 2023, the Siechem Madurai Panthers, led by Hari Nishanth, faced their second consecutive defeat as the Dindigul Dragons, captained by Ravichandran Ashwin, comfortably chased down a modest target of 124 runs with 35 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand. This result left the Panthers at the bottom of the points table, struggling to find their form.

However, amidst their disappointing performance, a remarkable moment from the Panthers’ player Murugan Ashwin made headlines on Sunday. This incident captured the attention of spectators for all the right reasons, as it showcased an extraordinary display of skill on the field—a sight that is not witnessed every day.

The extraordinary play occurred during the fourth over of the match. Left-arm fast bowler Gurjapneet Singh delivered a length ball outside the off stump. S Arun, who was batting on 3 off 4 balls, attempted a slashing shot over mid-off but failed to get the desired elevation. The ball seemed destined to sail over the point region, where Murugan Ashwin was positioned as a fielder. Despite the ball appearing well out of his reach, the 32-year-old player refused to give up.

With full determination, Murugan sprinted backward and stretched both his hands as the ball descended. In a breathtaking display of athleticism, he dove to complete an absolutely stunning catch just before the ball made contact with the ground.

Unsurprisingly, Murugan Ashwin was filled with excitement and adrenaline after successfully completing the catch. The crowd erupted in applause, and his teammates were in awe, witnessing his unwavering commitment and dedication on the field.
