The progress of Arshdeep Singh in the County Championship has caught the attention of the Indian selectors and team management. In his second match for Kent, the 24-year-old fast bowler showcased his talent by taking two crucial wickets.
Arshdeep’s dismissals of Northamptonshire’s Emilio Gay and captain Luke Procter were nearly identical, with Kent’s captain Jack Leaning safely catching both deliveries at second slip. Utilizing the new duke ball to his advantage, Arshdeep struck early in his spell after Northamptonshire elected to bat upon winning the toss.
Meanwhile, Australian cricketer Wes Agar also made his mark by achieving his second five-wicket haul in first-class cricket, limiting Northamptonshire to a modest total of 237 runs. Rob Keogh led a spirited fightback for Northamptonshire with an impressive knock of 97, supported by contributions from Sam Whiteman (40), Tom Taylor (35), and Saif Zaib (26).
Kent’s bowling attack, led by Wes Agar (5/63), Hamidullah Qadri (3/69), and Arshdeep Singh (2/56), shared the spoils in restricting the opposition’s score. In response, Kent made a solid start, reaching 110 for 1.

Tawanda Muyeye remained unbeaten on 58, while Daniel Bell-Drummond provided valuable support with an undefeated 48. The duo forged an impressive partnership of 93 runs for the second wicket. However, Kent lost opener Ben Compton early on, as he was dismissed for just 4 runs, courtesy of a delivery from Ben Sanderson.
