Yuzvendra Chahal, the skilled leg-spinner, was notably missing from the recently revealed Indian squad for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup. Instead, the national selectors opted for spin options like Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav as their primary choices for spin bowling in the continental championship.
Following the squad announcement, Dhanashree Verma, Chahal’s wife, posted a cryptic message on her Instagram story, pondering whether a reserved and introverted nature can impede one’s career advancement.
She raised the question of whether one needs to possess extroverted and street-smart qualities to prosper in their professional journey. Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm spinner, appears to have moved ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal in the selection hierarchy.
Notably, Chahal was sidelined throughout the West Indies ODI series, not getting an opportunity to play any of the three matches. This year, the experienced leg-spinner has participated in only two ODIs so far.
Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to social media on August 21, Monday, expressing his preference for including Yuzvendra Chahal in the squad for the 2023 Asia Cup. He indicated that the return of players like Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna from injuries might have influenced the team management’s decision to focus on bolstering their batting lineup.
