Former Pakistani pace ace and legendary bowler Wasim Akram believes that all-rounder Hardik Pandya will play a pivotal role in India’s prospects at the forthcoming ODI World Cup, commencing on October 5.
Pandya once again showcased his prowess with the ball during the Asia Cup 2023, particularly in the final match, where he dismantled the opposition’s lower order by claiming three crucial wickets. Throughout the tournament, Pandya secured a remarkable six wickets while maintaining an exceptional economy rate of 3.34.
In a conversation with Star Sports following the Asia Cup final, Wasim Akram expressed his views on Hardik Pandya and India’s bowling unit:
“Hardik Pandya is their primary asset for the upcoming World Cup, and India stands as one of the favorites to clinch the title. To begin with, they have the home advantage, and we’ve witnessed their bowling capabilities.”
Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the Player of the Tournament during the Asia Cup 2023, impressing with his left-arm wrist-spin and taking nine wickets in just two games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Wasim Akram praised Kuldeep’s performance and also lauded the Indian team management for having faith in him, which had a significant impact on his successful comeback.
Regarding this, Akram commented: “Kuldeep managed to secure wickets against top-tier teams in the Asia Cup, showcasing a well-rounded team. Kudos to the Indian think tank for supporting these players and ensuring they have a well-prepared squad ahead of the World Cup.”
Both Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav will play crucial roles for the Indian cricket team in the World Cup. Their utilization may involve strategic rotation in the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
