Root, making his first appearance at the crease, had no intentions of attacking the bowler and instead attempted to defend the ball. In a twist of events, he misread the delivery entirely, leading to the ball striking the pads.

After the review, the third umpire confirmed that the ball was indeed on its way to hit the stumps. However, Joe Root harbored doubts regarding the third umpire’s decision, believing that the umpire had disregarded a spike in the ultra-edge technology.

Root was under the impression that the sound emanated from his bat, but upon reviewing the replay, it was evident that a spike had already registered on the screen, confirming that the sound did not originate from his bat but rather from his shoes.
