Aakash Chopra on who can be India’s Test captain after Rohit Sharma

Aakash Chopra has identified Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant as potential future Test captains for India once Rohit Sharma steps down from his leadership role.

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Chopra discussed the long-term prospects for India’s Test captaincy after Rohit Sharma. He highlighted Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant as strong contenders.

Chopra emphasized that while Gill, who is part of the current Test squad, hasn’t captained India in any format yet, his leadership role for the Gujarat Titans in the upcoming IPL could be a step toward that direction.

Additionally, despite Rishabh Pant’s limited experience in leading the national team in T20Is, Chopra sees Pant as a game-changer and a potential candidate for Test captaincy due to his exceptional abilities on the field.

Chopra clarified that his assessment was for the distant future, not an immediate consideration. He suggested that once Rohit Sharma decides to step away from Test cricket, either Gill or Pant could be entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Indian team in the longest format of the game.
