WATCH : Suryakumar Yadav looks to the skies after an innings for the ages

In the pivotal series decider against South Africa at the Wanderers, India navigated the challenges posed by the pitch and managed to set a competitive total of 201/7. While multiple players contributed to the batting effort, the standout performance belonged to Suryakumar Yadav, whose exceptional innings etched another chapter in cricket history, solidifying his stature as a T20 legend.

Coming in to bat at a precarious 29/2 in the third over, the 33-year-old initially struggled to find his rhythm, reaching 26 runs from 24 balls at the halfway mark. However, a decisive turning point emerged in the 12th over when Yadav unleashed a devastating assault on Andile Phehlukwayo, unleashing a flurry of boundaries and sixes.

From there, he exhibited relentless aggression against every bowler, showcasing both power and precision to accelerate his scoring rate. Remarkably, he reached his century in the 20th over, having amassed 100 runs off just 55 deliveries.

As the Wanderers, renowned for its hostile ambiance, witnessed Yadav’s brilliance, an appreciative grin spread across his face. The crowd, acknowledging the extraordinary innings, erupted in thunderous applause, prompting Yadav to remove his helmet, kiss the team badge, and acknowledge the overwhelming ovation from all corners of the stadium.

Despite getting dismissed on the subsequent delivery, the crowd’s applause intensified, with Proteas players even congratulating the Indian skipper for his remarkable achievement.

The reception of Suryakumar Yadav’s record-equalling fourth T20I century drew immediate comparisons online with AB de Villiers’ memorable 133 off 59 balls in the 2015 IPL. This parallel recalled the awe-inspiring moment at Wankhede Stadium when de Villiers, despite playing for rival team Royal Challengers Bangalore, received an extended standing ovation from the crowd for his exceptional performance.
