A much-anticipated match in the Big Bash League faced a delayed start, but after the MCG groundsmen ensured play, the action commenced. Opting to field first after winning the toss proved advantageous for Glenn Maxwell’s Melbourne Stars, who swiftly made an impact by taking early wickets, highlighted by the skipper’s lively celebration upon dismissing Quinton de Kock.
The recently retired South African displayed form by striking two boundaries off Joel Paris and following it up with a four and a six against Marcus Stoinis in the initial overs.
However, Maxwell astutely assessed the matchup between a right-arm off-spinner and the left-handed batsman, which led to de Kock’s departure shortly after the powerplay.
In the fifth over, Maxwell himself entered the attack and enticed de Kock into attempting a hefty slog against a fuller delivery near the off stump. The left-hander’s attempt to slog against the turn caused him to lose control, resulting in the ball flying off the toe end of the bat towards Beau Webster at long-on.
