During the second Test against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town on Wednesday, January 3, India’s captain Rohit Sharma engaged in a light-hearted exchange with Shubman Gill, creating a moment of humor on the field.
While batting together, Rohit humorously pointed out to Gill that Kagiso Rabada was the only bowler from South Africa that they needed to be wary of. This banter took place during the seventh over of India’s first innings when Rabada paused in the middle of an over.
Gill smartly left a delivery outside off stump from the pacer, earning Rohit’s admiration. In a video making rounds on X, Rohit quipped, “Ek hi bowler hai aur koi jyada hai nahi (There is only one bowler and there are no more).”
Rohit’s lighthearted advice to Gill followed shortly after Rabada had dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck, providing the first breakthrough for South Africa. Interestingly, both Rohit and Gill later fell victim to left-arm pacer Nandre Burger, caught by Marco Jansen at gully.

It’s worth noting that Rabada had previously dismissed Rohit in both innings of the first Test. South Africa emerged victorious in that match, securing a commanding win by an inning and 32 runs, thereby leading the two-match series 1-0.
