WATCH : Nicholls-Hay duo thrashes Northern Brave in Christchurch

Electing to bat first after winning the toss didn’t work in favor of the Northern Brave against Canterbury. Chad Bowes and experienced Black Caps player Tom Latham started aggressively right from the opening over.

Despite Tim Pringle, a key bowler for the Brave, dismissing Bowes, Canterbury continued their attacking stance, reaching 47/1 by the end of the powerplay. Henry Nicholls and Cole McConchie further accelerated the innings, targeting Pringle and Frederick Walker with some aggressive strokes.

While the Brave’s bowlers managed to claim the wickets of Latham and McConchie in quick succession, Nicholls and Mitchell Hay took charge, dominating the bowling attack. Nicholls crafted a composed 76 off 50 deliveries, including 10 boundaries and a six, while Hay outdid him with a powerful 73 off just 31 balls, featuring 4 boundaries and 6 massive sixes.

Starting at 96/3 in the 13th over, the duo forged an unbroken 106-run partnership, hammering 79 runs in the last five overs to push the score to 202/3. However, the Northern Brave’s opening pair, Katene Clarke and Tim Seifert, failed to provide the desired start as Seifert departed after scoring just 5 runs.

Although Brave captain Jeet Raval and Clarke showed some promise with a 35-run partnership, it was short-lived. Canterbury’s bowlers impressively picked off opposition batters at regular intervals. As a result, the Brave couldn’t establish substantial partnerships and eventually ended at 169/9 in their 20 overs, resulting in a 34-run defeat.
