South African U19 sensation Kwena Maphaka’s message to Jasprit Bumrah

In a dazzling display, young South African speedster Kwena Maphaka captured attention with a remarkable victory for the hosts against West Indies during the second match of the U19 World Cup 2024 in Potchefstroom on Friday, January 19.

Maphaka earned the coveted Player of the Match title by delivering outstanding figures of 5/38. His celebration after each wicket gained widespread attention for its resemblance to the way renowned Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah occasionally celebrates – a distinctive ‘I don’t know’ gesture with his hands stretched wide.

In a video shared on the ICC’s Instagram page following South Africa’s triumph, Maphaka revealed the inspiration behind his unique celebration. He explained that he had consulted his brother for a pre-World Cup celebration, and his brother’s response, “I have no clue. I don’t know,” resonated with him. Embracing the idea, Maphaka decided to go with the ‘I don’t know’ celebration.

Additionally, Maphaka conveyed a message to Jasprit Bumrah, showcasing his confidence as a left-arm pacer, saying, “Jasprit, you’re a great bowler. Hopefully, I am better than you.”

In the pursuit of a target of 286, West Indies faltered and were dismissed for 254, with 9.5 overs to spare. This emphasized the significance of Maphaka’s breakthroughs and underscored their pivotal role in securing the victory.
