WATCH : Odean Smith’s wild card entry befuddles match officials in Dubai

The top-ranked team faced a setback against the bottom-placed Desert Vipers in the 15th match of the ILT20 2024, courtesy of some relentless bowling.

However, the real surprise unfolded when, during the game in Dubai, Odean Smith, initially geared up as a super sub with the bat, nearly left match officials in disbelief.

The incident transpired after the final ball of the 16th over, where Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed Ambati Rayudu, claiming the sixth wicket of the innings. With Dwayne Bravo waiting to bat, Odeon was observed padded up and making his way towards the center of the field to replace Rayudu.

However, confusion ensued as Odean’s name was not listed on the teamsheet, leading to uncertainty among the match officials. Fourth umpire Aleem Dar engaged in a discussion with MI Emirates head coach, alongside Nicholas Pooran and Odean Smith on the sidelines.

The facial expressions of those present suggested confusion, as the on-field umpires had not been informed by the think-tank about the intended super sub. This sudden bewilderment prompted DJ Bravo to step out for his batting innings, relegating Odean back to the dugout and abandoning the super-sub scenario. The TV umpire, Paul Wilson, clarified the situation after the subsequent over.
