WATCH : Malan’s heated debate with umpires after confusion over DRS and runout

Sunrisers Eastern Cape made a solid start after winning the toss, with openers Dawid Malan and Jordan Hermann guiding their team to 45/0 at the end of the powerplay. However, DSG’s Keshav Maharaj displayed his prowess by dismissing Hermann in the seventh over.

The match was then interrupted due to adverse weather conditions, with the score at 62/1 in 8.2 overs. After an hour-long delay, play resumed, with Maharaj leading the attack for the Super Giants against Tom Abell and Malan at the crease.

However, Cape Town witnessed another interruption due to confusion surrounding a run-out and DRS. Maharaj delivered the last ball of the eighth over, which Abell attempted to reverse sweep and was given out by on-field umpire Stephen Harris.

Meanwhile, Abell had already attempted a single, which was rejected by Malan, resulting in Abell being run out at the keeper’s end. Despite Malan suggesting Abell to review the decision, Abell had already begun walking back to the dugout.

Malan then approached leg umpire Lubabalo Gcuma to discuss the confusion, but Gcuma remained firm on his decision, stating that Abell was run out before appealing for the DRS. As Malan continued to argue, Aiden Markram reached the crease to resume batting.
