Islamabad United’s choice to field first paid off initially when they dismissed Karachi opener Tim Siefert in the third over, thanks to a brilliant stumping by Azam Khan.
Despite this early success, Karachi managed to stabilize their innings with Leus du Plooy and Shan Masood guiding them to 46/1 by the end of the powerplay. However, Azam committed an error right after the powerplay by missing a run-out opportunity.
In the eighth over, Shan Masood skillfully directed a delivery from Agha Salman towards extra cover, prompting Leus du Plooy to attempt a quick single. Although du Plooy faced a delay in reaching the opposite end, Azam swiftly received the throw and attempted to dislodge the bails as du Plooy dove to make his ground.
The decision was referred to the third umpire, creating a moment of suspense. Upon review, it was evident that Azam, in his haste, had tried to dislodge the bails before securing the ball, which had slipped through his gloves, granting du Plooy a lucky escape.

However, du Plooy’s respite was short-lived as Salman’s next delivery deceived him, resulting in his dismissal. The Islamabad team went through a rollercoaster of emotions, with Captain Shadab expressing joy and congratulating Azam despite his earlier mistake.
