Winning the toss and electing to field first backfired for Chennai Super Kings as RCB openers Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli put together a 78-run partnership before Kohli fell in the tenth over.
Subsequently, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis accelerated, racing to a 35-ball 50 by taking on Ravindra Jadeja. Just as the South African seemed poised for a big score, Santner’s acrobatic effort led to Faf’s unfortunate run-out dismissal.
On the last ball of the 13th over, Santner bowled a fuller delivery at the stumps that Rajat Patidar drilled straight back. The Kiwi tried to stop the ball but managed only a faint deflection that sent it towards the stumps.
Faf, at the non-striker’s end, was caught out of his crease and rushed to get back before the ball hit the stumps. The on-field umpires referred the decision to TV umpire Michael Gough, who confirmed that Faf was marginally short of the crease with his bat in the air, as UltraEdge showed a spike from the ball grazing Santner’s finger.

Despite reviewing various angles and zoomed-in replays, the out decision stood, causing discontent in the RCB camp and igniting a frenzy on Twitter.
