Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis couldn’t capitalize on a promising sixth-wicket partnership and struggled against the English attack.
With conditions favoring swing and pace, several Sri Lankan batters fell early, and Asitha’s dismissal was particularly unfortunate.
After hitting a boundary with a slog sweep on the first ball of the 62nd over, Asitha tried a reverse sweep. The ball spun sharply, brushing against his arm and heading towards the wicketkeeper.
The on-field umpire gave the out decision following an English appeal, but Asitha believed the ball had hit his forearm. Upon review, it was clear that the ball had actually touched the sweatband on his gloves, as shown by the spike on the Ultraedge.

According to MCC laws, any part of the glove’s ornamentation is considered part of the bat, leading to the dismissal. Many on Twitter sympathized with Asitha, feeling his dismissal was particularly unlucky.
