Sarfaraz Khan and Virat Kohli were commended for persuading Rohit Sharma to initiate a critical DRS review that led to Will Young’s dismissal during the Pune Test on October 24.
Young had been caught down the leg side off R. Ashwin’s bowling by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, but neither Ashwin nor Pant were confident about the catch.
Sarfaraz was quite insistent in urging both Ashwin and Pant to consider the review. When Rohit came over, Sarfaraz encouraged him to challenge the on-field decision, with Kohli quickly backing him up, helping Rohit make the call to appeal.
The review showed the ball was extremely close to Young’s glove, and further analysis with the snickometer confirmed that there had been slight contact before it reached Pant.
The successful review meant New Zealand lost their second wicket, prompting the crowd to erupt in cheers.
