A former Indian all-rounder believes Mitchell Starc’s record as the most expensive IPL player could soon be surpassed, especially with Rishabh Pant available in the upcoming auction.
The 2025 IPL Auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25. Along with Rishabh Pant, other prominent players like Glenn Maxwell, Kagiso Rabada, Mitchell Starc, and IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer are also set to go under the hammer.
In 2024, Mitchell Starc set the record as the most expensive IPL player when Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for INR 24.75 crore. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant is currently in excellent form, as demonstrated in his impressive performance during the recent three-match home Test series.
Recently, Pant addressed his decision to part ways with Delhi Capitals (DC), after reports suggested he demanded a hefty retention fee. Pant clarified that the team did not retain him, rather than him requesting a high fee.
The recent changes in Delhi’s management have played a significant role in Pant’s departure from the team. DC has retained players like Axar Patel, Trystan Stubbs, and Kuldeep Yadav, with INR 76.25 crore remaining in their purse.

In a previous move, DC released Shreyas Iyer in 2022, after he had led the team to their first IPL final in 2020. Rishabh Pant then took over as captain, but now, his nine-year stint with the Delhi team is coming to an end.
