WATCH : ‘Lazy elegance’ from Rohit Sharma: hits a long six off Nabi

In the Ranji match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir on January 24, Rohit Sharma treated his fans to a few memorable moments with his trademark shots. One of the standout moments came when he faced Jammu and Kashmir’s fast bowler, Aquib Nabi.

With a subtle shift of his feet to adjust to Nabi’s full delivery, Rohit elegantly guided the ball over the bowler’s head with a flawless straight drive. The ball sailed long enough to hit the roof of the BKC stadium.

Rohit, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, joined the Mumbai Ranji team for the second half of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. The Elite Group A match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir began on January 23, and as Mumbai’s captain Ajinkya Rahane confirmed, both Rohit and Jaiswal opened the innings for the team.

However, from day one, Jammu and Kashmir’s bowlers appeared to have the upper hand, despite a few contentious umpire decisions going against them.

As for the opening partnership, it didn’t go as planned. Rohit Sharma could only manage 3 runs from 19 balls, while Jaiswal faced 7 balls, scoring 4 runs. It was Shardul Thakur who provided the backbone for Mumbai’s innings, scoring a solid half-century (51), with Tanuah Kotian contributing 26.

Together, they helped Mumbai reach 120 runs, with Yudhvir Singh taking 4 wickets, including that of Rohit Sharma. Umar Nazir Mir also claimed 4 wickets in the first innings.

Jammu & Kashmir, in response, posted a total of 206 runs, with opener Shubham Khajuria leading the charge with a half-century (51). Abiid Mustaq played a quick cameo, scoring 41 runs off 37 balls. Mohit Awasthi was the standout bowler for Mumbai, claiming 5 wickets.

In Mumbai’s second innings, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a steady start. Jaiswal played the role of anchor, while Rohit was aggressive, taking on the bowlers. However, Rohit’s innings was cut short at 23 when he edged a delivery from Yudhvir Singh. During his brief stay, he had struck 2 boundaries and 3 sixes.
