WATCH : Varun’s wry smile after denying ‘smog’ excuses to dumbfounded Brook

India mirrored their approach from the first T20I in Kolkata by choosing to bowl first after winning the toss in Chennai. Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya made early breakthroughs, applying early pressure on the English side.

However, Jos Buttler looked in exceptional form against the spinners, while Harry Brook began to find some fluency with his shots.

As the pair attempted to steady the innings, it was Varun Chakravarthy who broke their partnership, cleaning up Brook with a sharp delivery.

After the powerplay saw England at 58/2, Chakravarthy was brought into the attack on his home ground. Buttler needed a couple of balls to get off strike against the finger spinner before a perfectly pitched googly outside the off stump beat Brook’s inside edge and hit the stumps.

The right-hander, struggling to judge the length and variation, attempted to pull back but was left stunned as the stumps were shattered.

Brook, still haunted by his dismissal in the previous match—blaming the Kolkata smog for it—was visibly frustrated. Meanwhile, Chakravarthy, with a knowing smile, watched him walk off, sparking a flurry of reactions across Twitter.
