Watch: Jaipur crowd chants “Ro-hit Ro-hit” during PBKS vs MI

Rohit Sharma’s popularity continues to transcend team loyalties and locations. During the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in Jaipur, fans were heard chanting Rohit’s name, even though it wasn’t Mumbai’s home ground. His widespread admiration among cricket lovers was once again on full display, proving that his presence on the field draws attention regardless of the venue or situation.

The IPL has seen many unexpected results in recent days, with top teams faltering. But in this match, Punjab Kings delivered a commanding performance to become the first team to secure a spot in Qualifier 1. Chasing a challenging 185-run target set by Mumbai Indians, PBKS cruised to a 7-wicket victory, powered by a remarkable 109-run partnership between Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis that turned the game in their favor.

Mumbai Indians built their total on the back of Suryakumar Yadav’s dynamic 57 off 39 balls, laced with six fours and two sixes. Openers Ryan Rickelton (27) and Rohit Sharma (24) laid a steady foundation, while Will Jacks and Hardik Pandya added quick-fire cameos.

Despite these efforts and 11 extra runs, Mumbai’s 184/7 wasn’t enough. Among Punjab’s bowlers, Arshdeep Singh stood out with two wickets for 28 runs, supported by Marco Jansen and Vijaykumar Vyshak, who also claimed two scalps each.

In response, Prabhsimran Singh had a slow start but managed to build some early momentum before getting out for 13. That brought Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis together, and the duo dominated the bowlers with aggressive strokeplay.

Arya’s 62 off 35 balls and Inglis’s 73 off 42 effectively knocked Mumbai out of the contest. Shreyas Iyer, batting at number 4, sealed the win with an unbeaten 26, ending the game with a six. Mitchell Santner tried to resist with two wickets, but PBKS had already taken control.

The Jaipur pitch favored batters, and Punjab Kings capitalized on it perfectly. Their all-round performance highlighted their intent and consistency at a critical stage in the tournament. While Mumbai showed glimpses of firepower, their inability to defend a good total cost them the match. On a night when Rohit Sharma’s name echoed through the stands, it was Punjab’s young guns who stole the show.
