San Francisco Unicorns extended their unbeaten streak in the Major League Cricket 2025 season with a dominant 47-run victory over MI New York at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Tuesday.
Batting first, the Unicorns posted a massive total of 246/4 in their 20 overs, thanks to explosive performances from Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk. Short led the way with a blistering 91 off just 43 balls, hitting five sixes and nine fours, while Fraser-McGurk added to the carnage with a fiery 64 off 26 balls, smashing seven sixes and a four.
The late-innings fireworks didn’t stop there, as Sanjay Krishnamurthi chipped in with a handy 27 off 16 balls and Hassan Khan played a jaw-dropping cameo, scoring 31 off just 9 deliveries.
Their contributions pushed the Unicorns’ total close to the 250-run mark, putting MI New York under immense pressure before they had even picked up their bats. The depth in the Unicorns’ lineup once again proved to be their biggest strength, showcasing their ability to dominate from start to finish.
MI New York began their chase in style, with openers Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel putting on a formidable 119-run partnership in the first 10 overs. De Kock scored a fluent 70 off 46 balls, striking eight boundaries and two sixes, while Monank Patel raced to 60 off 33 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six. However, their departure triggered a slowdown in momentum, as the middle order failed to keep the run rate in check. Only Kieron Pollard showed some resistance, staying unbeaten on 34 from 16 balls.
With the required rate climbing steeply, the final four overs demanded 80 runs—an unlikely task. Romario Shepherd struck immediately, dismissing de Kock with the first delivery of the over. The very next ball produced a comic moment when Michael Bracewell, attempting a big shot, was bowled cleanly but mistakenly opted for a DRS review.
Thinking he was out LBW, Bracewell reviewed despite the ball clearly hitting the stumps. Realizing his blunder moments later, he smiled sheepishly and walked off, explaining the confusion to a bemused Kieron Pollard, while the crowd broke into laughter.

Despite a solid start to the chase, MI New York’s failure to maintain momentum after the openers fell meant they could only manage 199/6 in their 20 overs. San Francisco Unicorns’ all-round performance with both bat and ball kept their winning record intact and highlighted their title-contending credentials. With strong performances across the board and memorable moments on the field, SFU remain one of the most entertaining and consistent teams in MLC 2025 so far.
