Mitchell Starc picks up fastest 5-wicket haul in Test cricket history

The West Indies suffered a historic low in Test cricket as they were bowled out for just 27 runs — their lowest-ever total — in a shocking collapse against Australia. What seemed like a competitive match quickly turned one-sided within just 15 minutes of play.

Australia’s pace trio — Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland — tore through the West Indies batting lineup in under 15 overs, turning the tide dramatically in Australia’s favour.

Amidst the chaos, Mitchell Starc had his moment of personal satisfaction. In the first innings, he had been dismissed by Jayden Seales, who followed it up with a few fiery words. But Starc responded in the best way possible — with the ball.

He returned the favour by dismantling Seales’ stumps with a full and straight delivery, securing his sixth wicket of the innings. Starc pointed and smiled at Seales after the dismissal, a light-hearted moment between two fierce competitors. Seales acknowledged it with a grin of his own as he walked off.

Starc’s spell was nothing short of spectacular. He struck with the first ball of the innings, removing John Campbell with a seaming delivery at 137 kph. From there, he ran through the West Indies top order, dismissing Kelvon Anderson and Brendon King for ducks via LBW off consecutive balls.

He then trapped Mikyle Louis in front first ball and later got Shai Hope in the fifth over through a successful DRS appeal. At one point, Starc had five wickets in just five overs, leaving the hosts in complete disarray.

This match was extra special for Starc as it marked his 100th Test appearance. To commemorate the milestone, he was named both the Player of the Match and the Player of the Series. Though Shamar Joseph topped the series wicket charts with 22 scalps, Starc’s 15 wickets and match-winning impact solidified his legacy in Australian cricket.

Australia’s dominant display also ensured a series whitewash, with Starc’s brilliance being the standout highlight. The West Indies’ collapse will surely be a point of introspection, while Australia, powered by their pace attack, once again demonstrated why they remain one of the most formidable Test sides in world cricket.
