WATCH : Ankit Kumar’s hitting prowess makes Digvesh Rathi pay for his antics

West Delhi Lions extended their unbeaten streak in the Delhi Premier League 2025 with a dominant eight-wicket win over South Delhi Superstarz at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Chasing a stiff target of 186, WDL made it look effortless thanks to a blistering knock from opener Ankit Kumar, who smashed 96 off just 46 deliveries. His breathtaking innings ensured that West Delhi chased down the total in just 15.4 overs, leaving the opposition stunned.

Ankit’s innings was nothing short of spectacular as he hammered six sixes and 11 boundaries. He was well-supported by Krish Yadav at the other end, who played a composed yet aggressive knock of 67 from 42 balls. The duo stitched together a massive 158-run opening stand that completely deflated the South Delhi bowling attack and set the tone for a comfortable finish.

Earlier in the day, South Delhi Superstarz had made a promising start but were eventually restricted to 185/7. WDL’s bowlers did a commendable job to rein in the scoring, with medium pacer Anirudh Chowdhary being the pick of the lot with figures of 3/25. Manan Bhardwaj also chipped in with two crucial wickets, neutralizing the cameos from SDS skipper Ayush Badoni and Kunwar Bidhuri.

Sensing the momentum slipping away during the chase, Badoni brought in his trump card, mystery spinner Digvesh Rathi, as early as the third over. But the move backfired spectacularly. Ankit Kumar took him on right away, smashing a four and a six in his very first over. The pressure began to mount on Rathi, who visibly lost his composure after being dispatched to the boundary once again in his next over.

Tensions reached a boiling point when Rathi aborted his delivery stride on the final ball of his over, causing Ankit to back out of the crease in protest. The moment sparked a heated exchange between the two. But Ankit had the final say. When Rathi returned in the 12th over, Ankit punished him with two massive sixes off consecutive balls and then gestured triumphantly, signaling that he had settled the score. It was a moment that perfectly capped off a dominant display by both Ankit and the West Delhi Lions.
