In the build-up to the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 clash, India skipper Suryakumar Yadav remained composed while addressing the media on Tuesday. India and Pakistan are set to lock horns on September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium, a fixture that always captures global attention. India begin their UAE campaign on Wednesday, while Pakistan will play their first game against Oman on Friday.
When asked about whether recent tensions between the two nations might spill onto the field, Suryakumar responded with calm assurance. “Aggression is always there when we take the field. Without aggression, you can’t play cricket. I am really excited to play cricket starting tomorrow,” he said. Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha echoed a similar view, remarking that aggression is welcome as long as it remains confined to the game itself.
This Asia Cup also marks India’s first multi-nation tournament under Suryakumar’s captaincy, following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup win. Since taking over, Surya has led India to 17 victories in 22 matches, a record that has built confidence within the squad. Speaking about the team’s approach, he said in Hindi, “Abhi tak sab badhiya chal raha hai, kyu bina matlab ka ungli karna hai,” meaning if the formula is working, there’s no need for unnecessary changes.

The Indian captain further highlighted the value of part-time bowlers in the setup. “It’s an added advantage. If your top-order batter gives you an extra over, that is always good for a captain. Someone who can roll their arm is also good,” he noted. He added that while India is returning to T20 cricket after a seven-month gap, the team has stayed sharp through the IPL and dedicated net sessions.
Looking ahead to the tournament, Suryakumar downplayed the tag of favourites, insisting that T20 cricket always provides opportunities for surprises. “We are playing T20 games after a long time. We have had good times at the nets. We are looking to play some good cricket in the tournament. It is a format where any team can have an impact,” he concluded.
