WATCH : Wasim Akram Faces Trolls After Praising Shubman Gill’s Six

The build-up to the much-anticipated India–Pakistan clash on September 14 in Dubai has already intensified, with emotions running high on both sides. Ahead of the marquee fixture, former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram found himself at the center of social media chatter after a comment he made during India’s match against the UAE. His appreciation for India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill did not sit well with some Pakistani fans.

India, while chasing a modest target of 58 runs, looked in complete control as openers Gill and Abhishek Sharma dispatched the bowlers to all parts of the ground. It was during this period that Gill produced a moment of pure elegance, flicking a full toss off his pads over the leg side for a massive six.

Akram, who was on commentary, could not hide his admiration for the stroke. He described it with great enthusiasm, saying, “Down the leg side. Look at the shot… look at that shot. Unbelievable. Into the stands. Flick of the wrist. Unbelievable shot.” His reaction, however, came across as slightly over the top to some viewers.

One Pakistani fan, while acknowledging Akram’s stature, expressed disappointment on social media. Retweeting the clip, the fan wrote: “Hey Legendary Wasim Akram… I always respect you, but this is too much for just a six.” The comment quickly gained traction, sparking debates about whether Akram’s reaction was excessive or simply genuine admiration for a quality cricket shot.

The episode has only added another layer of drama ahead of the high-voltage India–Pakistan encounter. With both nations already charged up for the September 14 showdown, every word, gesture, and reaction from players and experts alike is being closely scrutinized by passionate fans on either side of the border.
