Fans wince and smile in pain as a powerful throw ricochets off Nitish Reddy’s foot and races to the boundary

India continued to assert their dominance over the West Indies as play resumed on day two of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Resuming from an overnight score of 318/2, the hosts looked well on course for a massive total. However, the morning session began with a heartbreak for Yashasvi Jaiswal, who fell just 25 runs short of a deserving double hundred following an unfortunate mix-up while running between the wickets.

With Jaiswal’s dismissal, Nitish Reddy walked out to the middle to join skipper Shubman Gill. The pair looked intent on keeping the momentum going, rotating the strike and punishing the loose deliveries. Their partnership seemed to be progressing smoothly as they added 37 runs off 47 balls. But just when the game was flowing in India’s favor, an unexpected and rather amusing incident grabbed everyone’s attention.

In the first ball of the 100th over, Reddy guided Jayden Seales’ delivery between gully and point for a boundary. On the very next delivery, he tapped the ball gently towards wide mid-on and sprinted for a quick single. West Indies fielder Tagenarine Chanderpaul charged in and launched a powerful sidearm throw towards the stumps.

Though Reddy had comfortably made his ground, the ball struck him hard on his left foot as he crossed the crease. The impact appeared painful as the young all-rounder started limping and grimacing while returning to the non-striker’s end. To everyone’s surprise, the throw was so powerful that it deflected off his foot and sped away to the boundary, gifting India four additional runs.

The painful yet comical moment instantly went viral, with fans unsure whether to laugh or sympathize. Some drew parallels to Rishabh Pant’s unfortunate injury, while others lightheartedly celebrated the bonus runs. Reddy, meanwhile, appeared fine after a brief massage, and play resumed with smiles all around — a moment that perfectly blended humor, concern, and cricketing luck.
