WATCH : Romario Shepherd takes flight to pull off a breathtaking catch in mid-air

After facing a disappointing ODI series defeat against Bangladesh, the West Indies entered the T20I series with a fresh mindset, determined to bounce back. In the opening T20I held in Chattogram on Monday, the visitors opted to bat first and built a solid foundation. Skipper Shai Hope led from the front, and with Rovman Powell providing strong support, the duo forged an unbeaten 83-run partnership that helped the Windies post a competitive total of 165/3 in their 20 overs.

The home side, however, came out firing in response. Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan showed clear intent from the first over, taking on Akeal Hosein with a six and a four. His quick start gave the Tigers early momentum and ignited the crowd’s excitement. But that spark was short-lived, as an extraordinary moment of fielding brilliance from Romario Shepherd soon turned the tide.

In the second over bowled by Jayden Seales, Tanzid looked to continue his aggression, pulling a short delivery in hopes of clearing mid-on. Unfortunately for him, he mistimed the shot, and the ball looped awkwardly into the air. What seemed like a half-chance quickly transformed into a highlight-reel moment as Shepherd judged the trajectory perfectly and took off in pursuit.

Running backward, the tall all-rounder flung himself into the air in a breathtaking dive. With impeccable timing and balance, Shepherd managed to get both hands under the ball, clutching it securely before hitting the turf. The stadium gasped in awe as he completed the catch cleanly, a moment that instantly changed the energy of the game.

Overwhelmed with joy, Shepherd celebrated by throwing the ball skyward as his teammates rushed in to congratulate him. Jason Holder lifted him in delight, acknowledging the sheer athleticism and commitment behind the catch. The incredible effort not only dismissed Tanzid Hasan early but also set the tone for the West Indies in the field, proving that determination and brilliance can turn a match in a matter of seconds.
