South Africa had a restless beginning in the second ODI against India at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. The visitors sprayed the ball around early, conceding 13 wides inside the first five overs, allowing India to cruise to 40 without loss. But once they settled, the Proteas pacers struck back impressively, removing both Indian openers in quick succession.
Nandre Burger provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Rohit Sharma in the fifth over. Soon after, left-arm pacer Marco Jansen joined the act and removed Yashasvi Jaiswal in only his second over. Jansen stuck to his trusted short-ball plan, digging one in just short of a length outside the off stump, and the ball climbed sharply off the surface.
Jaiswal was hurried by the extra bounce and failed to control his pull shot, resulting in a top edge. The ball looped high in the air and landed safely in the hands of Corbin Bosch at square leg. That catch ended Jaiswal’s cautious 38-ball stay at the crease, which yielded 22 runs.
Jansen didn’t stop pressing after that crucial wicket. He immediately tested new batter Ruturaj Gaikwad with another steep bouncer. Gaikwad looked completely rushed by the delivery and could only attempt a desperate fend with his gloves as the ball kept climbing toward his face.

Luckily for Gaikwad, the ball flew high and sailed over the wicketkeeper for a rather accidental boundary. It was an unconvincing start to his innings, but he survived the scare. Jansen, however, looked visibly disappointed, knowing he had come within inches of picking up another wicket with his favourite weapon — the short ball.
Fans online soon took notice of Jansen’s spells, with many praising his ability to consistently generate wicket-taking chances through his sharp, well-directed bouncers. His short-ball barrage became one of the major talking points of the innings, highlighting just how dangerous he can be when he finds his rhythm.
