India, asked to bat first in the second ODI at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, produced another imposing total. Ruturaj Gaikwad led the way with his maiden ODI hundred, scoring a fluent 105, while Virat Kohli followed up his previous knock with yet another century, finishing on 102. Their efforts, complemented by solid support from the middle order, carried India to a strong 358/5.
South Africa began their reply with intent, even after losing Quinton de Kock early. Aiden Markram settled quickly and looked in complete control as he worked the gaps and rotated strike. His partnership with skipper Temba Bavuma helped stabilize the chase, and by the 17th over, the visitors had moved to 97/1, staying well within the required rate.
When Kuldeep Yadav returned for his second over, Markram looked eager to disrupt the spinner’s rhythm. A short ball sat up nicely, and the South African opener rocked back, attempting to pull it over long-on for a boundary that could further lift the innings’ momentum.
However, the shot did not come off the middle of the bat. The ball struck the toe end and sailed toward long-on, where Yashasvi Jaiswal was perfectly placed to take a routine catch. What should have been a straightforward dismissal instead took an unexpected turn.
Someone seriously needs to sit with the fielding coach and discuss what work he has done with Jaiswal in the last 3-4 months. The guy is pathetic! Even Ashish Nehra would be annoyed with this… iykyk!! 😅 pic.twitter.com/mIFrZ6bQGA

Jaiswal judged the trajectory well but chose a conventional catching technique even though the ball was arriving at chest height. As he leapt slightly to meet it, the mistimed approach caused the ball to brush against his fingers rather than settle securely into his hands.
The result was costly. The ball deflected off his hands and carried over the rope for six, handing Markram an unexpected reprieve. The moment stood out as a missed opportunity for India in an otherwise disciplined fielding effort.
