Virat Kohli once again proved why he remains one of the finest fielders in world cricket with a breathtaking catch during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala. At 37 years old, Kohli pulled off an incredible airborne effort that instantly reminded fans of Glenn Phillips’ famous athletic grabs.
The moment came in the 10th over of Punjab Kings’ chase when Suryansh Shedge attempted to loft Suyash Sharma over the infield. The shot looked safe at first, but Kohli reacted brilliantly from long-off, sprinting across the turf with perfect anticipation.
Realizing the ball was dropping quickly, Kohli launched himself horizontally in full stretch and completed a sensational diving catch just inches above the ground. The crowd erupted immediately, while social media exploded with reactions comparing the effort to Glenn Phillips’ gravity-defying fielding standards.
Fans and experts were left stunned not just because of the catch itself, but because Kohli managed such an athletic effort at this stage of his career. Many users online claimed that if Glenn Phillips had taken the same catch, it would have dominated cricket headlines worldwide.
If this was Glenn Phillips, the internet would’ve broken. This guy is 37?! 😭 Absolute unreal athleticism. pic.twitter.com/WbyaLn1zaQ

The spectacular effort, however, came at a cost. Kohli appeared to hurt his finger during the landing and briefly walked off the field for treatment. Despite the discomfort, his energy and commitment on the field inspired RCB throughout the contest.
RCB eventually defeated Punjab Kings by 23 runs after successfully defending 222 runs. The victory also helped Bengaluru become the first team to officially qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs, while Punjab Kings suffered another major setback in their campaign.
