All hell broke loose in the Indian cricket fraternity when Indian skipper Virat Kohli announced yesterday through his social media handles that he will be stepping down as the captain of the Indian T20 team after the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Undoubtedly the first name that comes to our mind when we think about an alternate captain of Team India apart from Virat Kohli. There has been a long standing debate in which many Indian fans are of the opinion that Rohit Sharma is a much better captain that Virat Kohli and that he should be given a change to lead the Indian National team. Now is the perfect opportunity for Rohit Sharma to take over captaincy of the team in the shortest format of the game. Rohit Sharma is also the Vice captain of the Indian T20 team and thus he is the leading contender to become the captain of Team India.
BCCI later confirmed the news and it has now come up with three possible players who can replace Virat Kohli as the T20 Vice captain of Team India.
Let us have a look at who those three players are:-
Jasprit Bumrah
The surprise element on this list. No captaincy experience whatsoever but is undoubtedly one of the most important players of India as of now.
KL Rahul
Undoubtedly the best T20 player in the Indian squad after Virat Kohli as of now. Lokesh Rahul is in a form of his life and us being seen as the successor of Virat Kohli in the Indian cricket scenario. He is also the captain of IPL franchise Punjab Kings and thus he had experience in captaincy. However, just like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul does not have any major trophy or achievement as a captain and thus he Rohit Sharma has a big advantage against him in this case. Rohit Sharma has won 4 IPL trophies as a captain.
Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant is the youngest player on the list of probable Captains of team India and this he is also the most inexperienced. Although he is the captain of Delhi Capitals and thus he is slowly learning the process, he is still much behind KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma in this phase. Just this year, he took over the captaincy of Delhi Capitals from Shreyas Iyer as the latter was injured. As of now, Rishabh Pant has done extremely well as a captain. Delhi Capitals are currently on no. 2 on the table of IPL 2021.
