BCCI issues medical update of Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer

On Saturday, the BCCI issued medical updates regarding the back injuries of Indian cricketers Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer. Both players have been sidelined for a considerable period of time. Bumrah, who had undergone surgery on his lower back in New Zealand, has commenced his rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, starting from Friday.

According to the BCCI, Jasprit Bumrah underwent a successful surgery on his lower back in New Zealand and is now pain-free. The specialist who treated him advised him to start his rehabilitation program six weeks after the operation, and he has begun it accordingly.

Bumrah has been out of action since September 25th of last year due to a back injury. He returned for the T20I series against Australia but suffered another back injury that ruled him out of the T20 World Cup. After regaining his fitness, he was included in the India squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. However, he was withdrawn from the series at the last minute after experiencing back pain during a match simulation at the NCA.

Currently, there is no information regarding Bumrah’s return to the cricket field. Reports suggest that he is unlikely to participate in the WTC final against Australia in July. However, he is racing against time to regain fitness for the ODI World Cup, scheduled for October-November in India later this year.

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer aggravated his back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, which ruled him out of the IPL 2023. He is also not expected to participate in the WTC final.

According to the BCCI, Shreyas Iyer is set to undergo surgery for his lower back issue next week. Following the surgery, he will remain under the surgeon’s care for two weeks and then undergo rehabilitation at the NCA.
