During the 51st game of the Big Bash League 2023 between Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heats, a comical incident occurred on the field which was captured on camera. Four fielders can be seen trying to field the ball, yet still misfielding it.
As the Big Bash League 2023 nears its conclusion, fans have been treated to an exciting and action-packed season. On January 22nd, Melbourne Stars traveled to take on the Brisbane Heats in the penultimate game of the league for both teams.
In the match between Brisbane Heats and Melbourne Stars, Heats won the toss and chose to bat first at the Gabba. They set a challenging target of 188 runs, with a standout performance from Sam Hain who scored an unbeaten 73 off 41 balls. The Stars began their response positively, thanks to Tom Rodgers’ quick 41 runs. However, Joe Clark’s underwhelming 31 runs off 31 balls ultimately led to the Stars’ defeat.
Despite strong efforts from Marcus Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright, the Stars fell short of the target by 4 runs. At the start of the second innings, a humorous incident occurred on the field.
During the 3rd over of the second innings, Tom Rogers executed a well-placed shot through the covers. The fielder stationed at the extra cover position began the pursuit, and was joined by the point fielder and the mid-off player in the chase.
The pursuit became comically chaotic when the deep point fielder also joined in. This is an unusual sight as it is not common for more than two fielders to chase a ball headed towards the boundary. Ultimately, Matt Kunehman threw the ball and prevented the opener from getting four runs.
