On the second day of the Newlands Test, Aiden Markram and David Beningham initiated the morning session, but Beningham fell victim to Jasprit Bumrah in the first over. Bumrah’s precision continued, claiming the dismissals of Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen, and Keshav Maharaj within 25 deliveries.
Meanwhile, Aiden Markram steered the runs from the opposite end, swiftly reaching a remarkable century, lifting the South African side into a lead. Later, Mohammed Siraj halted the 51-run eighth-wicket partnership before the hosts were bundled out for 176, holding a lead of 78 runs.
Bumrah showcased a standout performance for India with figures of 13.5-0-61-6, backed by a couple of wickets from Mukesh Kumar. In pursuit of their target, Yashasvi Jaiswal (28) aggressively contributed 44 runs alongside Rohit Sharma in the opening stand. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli added two boundaries each but fell shortly after.
Kagiso Rabada dismissed Gill in the 9th over, while Jansen claimed Kohli’s wicket after a successful review, leaving India just four runs shy of victory. Shreyas Iyer struggled initially against Jansen’s bouncers but managed to hit a four after a no-ball, making history by sealing the win for India in Cape Town for the first time.
